This medium-sized deciduous tree blooms greenish-yellow flowers that occur in terminal corymbs, growing about 5 centimeters in diameter, with purplish stamens.
The bark is smooth and brown in color with horizontal wrinkles and has been used 3000 years ago to treat urinary tract infections, kidney stones, prostate-related disorder, and many other diseases. The branches are white tinged with yellow and purple patches.
Varun Plant bears fruits that resemble lemon and changes the color to red after ripening. The petals are ovate or oblong with the claw half as long and have anti-inflammatory, diuretic, lithontriptic, demulcent, and tonic properties.
These plants reach a maximum height of 25 m and don’t require much maintenance and care to thrive.

Planting and Care

- These plants need
- well-drained, fertile rich organic soil to thrive.
- Water the plant from the base and don’t overwater.
- Water stagnation must be avoided in all cases.
- During summer, the frequency of watering should be higher, moderate during the rainy and winter season.
- Make sure the roots of the plant are damp but not too wet.
- Add diluted fertilizers into the water. If you’re adding fertilizers directly, water the soil immediately.
- Avoid adding fertilizer near the plant base.
- Varun plant has long tap roots that eventually stretches
- out, hence these trees prefer loose, well-dug, well-drained organic soil.
- To ensure the planting is not compact and the plant can bloom to its full potential, dig down a hole with 2 feet in depth and 3 feet across.
- Knock off the old soil from the plant root by removing all rotted and dead roots feet
- In case of insect or pest attack, use Eucalyptus oil, Neem oil, or Citrus oil spray for the primary treatment.
