The Pachira Aquatica is a true swamp plant with tangled stems and large leaves. In China, a Patchira with a five fingered leaf is a symbol of luck. That’s why it is often given away as a gift with a few bank notes tucked inside.
Pachiras grow in marshes and river beds in Central America. They are also called money tree and they can be twenty metres tall. Pachiras are happiest in a warm and bright spot.
Temperature: This plant prefers temperatures between 65-75°F (16-24° C.)
Lighting preference: grows best in medium to bright indirect light.
Electrical lighting: does well under fluorescent lights.
Irrigation of water: Give the plant plenty of water at once; they like that better than little by little. and then allow the top 1″- 2″ of soil to dry out before watering again. requires less water during winter. and it is best to move it into a cooler room.
Humidity: It likes high humidity. If your home or office is dry, place the plant on a wet pebble tray to increase the humidity. Be sure the plant is sitting on the pebbles and not in the water.
Fertilization and feeding: Feed a Money Tree monthly in the spring and summer when it is producing new leaves. Fertilize every other month in the fall and winter when a Pachira aquatica is actively growing.
