These ball-shaped colorful cactus will make you fall in love with their vibrant, bright colors. This plant is available in a  wide variety of colors ranging from hot pink, neon yellow to brilliant orange. Though this plant is unable to produce chlorophyll, it can exhibit yellow, red, and orange pigmentation.

Moon Cactus or Gymnocalycium mihanovichii is a species of cactus from South America and is like a combination of two cacti that have been grafted together.

Plant these colorful succulents and increase the brightness of your space, almost instantly. Though many often confuse the top layer of the cacti as their flowers but if you keep your patience, this plant will reward you by blooming different shades of pretty pink flowers.

Depending on the root shoot, moon cacti reach a maximum height of 4 inches and don’t require much maintenance and care to thrive.

Planting and Care

  • Moon Cactus blooms in bright and sunny light but can also endure partial shade.
  • Protect the plant from intense strong heat and temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 32 degree Celsius.
  • These plants need protection during winters and keep tem indoor to protect from frost.
  • Water the plant well; don’t overwater.
  • Increase the frequency of watering during summer and cut down the frequency of watering during winters.
  • Allow the soil to dry off between watering.
  • It thrives in well-drained mineral soils.
  • Opuntioideae Cactus are prone to rotting if kept in dampened soil.
  • Use diluted fertilizers to encourage fuller growth of these plants.
