Jack fruits are delicious and nutritional tropical fruits that can be easily grown in your home garden. This large evergreen tree grows straight, reddish-brown bark and bears edible fruits.

The leaves are dark green, alternate, glossy, fairly large, oval in shape, and blooms short, stout flowers that emerge from the trunk and large branches and are composed of the coherence of multiple flowers. 

This erect perennial tree is from the Moraceae family and is cultivated throughout Malaysia. The fruits are kidney bean-shaped and yellow-green in color. JackFruit reaches a maximum height of 48 inches and doesn't require much maintenance or care to thrive.

Planting and Care

  • Jackfruit plant thrives under direct full sunlight, hence choose the sunniest spot in your garden.
  • The plant thrives in aerated, loamy, moist well-drained, fertile, and rich soil.
  • Remove the deadwood and take care of the thinning of the growing jackfruit tree.
  • If the tree is bigger, make sure to dig a larger hole.
  • Make sure the roots of the plant are damp but not too wet.
  • Prepare the soil with Nitrogen fertilizers before planting the seeds.
  • Water the soil immediately after using the fertilizer.
  • Knock off the old soil from the plant root by removing all rotted and dead roots.
  • While repotting, it’s preferable to do it during the evening and keep the plant in a shady area for a min 2-3 days before moving it to the ideal location and climate. 
  • Water the plants frequently in summer, reducing the frequency in winter and rainy season.
  • In case of insect or pest attack, use Eucalyptus oil, Neem oil, or Citrus oil spray for the primary treatment.
