Description

Cockscomb is a fine annual plant which grows 20 to 30 centimetres in height. It produces magnificent large flowers of a very dense form that come in multiple lovely colours. Its flowering period starts in July and lasts up to October; it is during the time of flowering that the plants reaches the peak of its decorative potential. Cockscomb is an ideal plant for dried bouquets or flower beds. Due to its gorgeous flowers, it also serves perfectly as a cut flower.

Growing: sow the seeds under heated cover from February to March. The seeds germinate in 5 to 8 days at 20-22oC. The seedlings require pricking out. Plant out into a permanent position with a cube of soil in 20x40cm spacings from late May to early June. The plants require moist fertile soils in warm and sunny positions. Two grams of seeds produce around one thousand plants.
